OUR ASPIRATIONS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN BRIEF

Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 120 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end. Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. We provide service to others; promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. At Rotary we are changing societies, humanities and lives through our socially responsible activities across the world. The Rotary Club of Islamabad Metropolitan (District 63) is actively engaged in serving the community and changing the lives of deserving peoples of their respective areas as per guideline of Rotary International, Rotary International President’s Special Advisor (RIPSA) and District Advisors.

Rotary Club of Islamabad Metropolitan (District 63) has been executed numerous projects in the last quarter, i.e., July-September 2024 under the leadership of President Shabbir Malik, and actively publicized and promoted them through various channels such as local and international media, including newspapers, TV channels, and social media, to enhance the public image of Rotary. These projects hold significant importance in changing and reshaping the lives of underprivileged people. The detail of the projects executed during the last quarter is given in this newsletter.

Initiatives Taken By RCIM

The following are just a few of the initiatives that RCIM has taken:

Education

In the field of education RCIM has supported basic education community schools in Islamabad
Capital Territory, which included teacher training.

Polio Eradication

For polio eradication, sustained campaign and engagement has been maintained, and rallies have been organized for advocacy and raising awareness. These efforts have been recognized by Rotary International.

Capacity Building & Skill Management

For capacity-building and skill development, RCIM is on the road to providing vocational training to youth in the Gilgit-Baltistan area in collaboration with a leading local NGO.

Youth Engagement & Road Safety

For the combined goal of youth engagement and road safety, RCIM has collaborated with Islamabad Traffic Police and local universities for awareness and advocacy of better traffic conditions in the capital city.

For the environment, under the banner of making Pakistan clean and green, several activities have been organized such as placement of recycling bins in tourist-rich Murree, and tree plantations in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Health & Medical Assistance

In health and medical assistance, medical camps have been organized for early hearing assessment and treatment. Moreover, RCIM has been in touch with Rotary Club of Calgary Chinook within the purview of Global Grant Project. Furthermore, RCIM and Shifa Foundation Islamabad have signed an MOU whereby both organizations would collaborate in carrying out various initiatives and ensuring supply of medicines to those in urgent need.

Disaster Response

With respect to disaster response, RCIM was at the forefront in relief efforts during Pakistan’s devastating floods in the summer of 2022. Clothing, beddings and medicines were delivered to flood affectees. On a more long lasting scale and in order to alleviate the post-flood problem of unclean water, RCIM raised funds both locally and from Rotary Clubs around the world to ensure the availability of LIFESAVER Water Purification filtration systems to flood-hit communities in Pakistan.

We are always on the lookout for ways to improve our society, and look forward to outreach with
likeminded Rotary Clubs and other organizations around the globe.
